I mentioned briefly in my first post about my and my friend’s podcast called, ‘Liberal Perceptions’.
Me and Dale do the podcast on a weekly basis and we cover a wide variety of subjects, and sometimes we don’t even really have a subject, we just talk about anything(our latest one was a bit like that really[Episode 3: Irrational Social Standards]).
So far we’ve done 3 episodes, however the 3rd one we’re still editing.
The first one was about Depressive Realism, a very liberal perception on Depression and how it might actually be a positive influence. While one can have an unrealistically negative outlook on the world when suffering from depression, some are actually just comprehending all aspects of their life, rather than cheerfully disregarding them. Ergo, one finds depression rates higher in places of poverty- if it was just a distorted perception then living standards should NOT have an effect. We go into further detail in the podcast.
The next podcast we did was on Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome. We went into a lot of detail into the pre-concieved ideas that come with being Autistic or having Asperger’s and whether or not a complete reformation of the definition of Autism would be beneficial. We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of Autism, is having Autism even a bad thing for most people with it? We we even covered some of the ethical issues concerning a cure- have you ever considered people with Autism don’t actually don’t want a cure?
Our newest one was rather Sociological. We discussed how appearance, social capacity, wealth and other factors more vain all came into play when deciding who you can mingle with and how these change from various environments. It’s all quite insane!
